Chahe — 茶荷 ('tea lotus') — is a vessel whose poetic name translates as 'tea lotus'. Chahe is used for the first 'meeting' with tea: its shape lets you easily examine the dry leaf and listen to the aroma of the dry tea. It is also much easier to pour tea from the lotus into the teapot. When choosing a chahe, pay attention to its size: large-leaf loose teas (for example, some white, red and green teas, Dancong, etc.) need more space, while in a small chahe they will feel 'cramped'. Conversely, teas with fine particles may get 'lost' in too large a lotus. Choose your chahe so that every new acquaintance is a pleasure!
