Tea figurines — 茶宠 (Cha Chong, 'tea pet') or 茶神 (Cha Shen, 'tea spirit') — are small figures placed on the cloth, tea board or somewhere in the tea space. In Chinese tradition, they embody a 'spirit' that is 'treated to tea' by pouring the first rinse over it or offering a small cup of tea. We look at figurines purely aesthetically, as an element that sets the mood and vibe of tea drinking: cheerful, sad, philosophical-contemplative or simply calm. Choose a figurine as if you were choosing a true friend with whom you will drink tea for years!
