Yixing clay, Master Zhang Yu
“Little Spout Ga” Series Teapot, 50 ml
This little piece is crafted from Yixing clay and fired using the traditional Hei Tao (black pottery) technique. As a result of the uneven firing, the surface gleams with a natural sheen in some spots, while elsewhere sandy and reddish undertones peek through the texture, reminiscent of copper or oxidized rust.
It is delightfully tactile to the touch, feeling just like holding an ancient stone. In addition, the master added an imitation crack repaired with ju ci staples and impressed his personal seal, which he reserves solely for his most exceptional creations. And it truly shows! This teapot inspires a special kind of admiration. You simply want to cradle it in your hands, admiring every detail without taking your eyes off it, and then talk about it with passion, just as I am doing right now.
Yes, perhaps it isn't the most practical due to its petite size (just 50 ml), but it is an absolute work of art, akin to a Van Gogh painting or a Giacometti sculpture. I would even go as far as to call it poetry in clay.
