Taiwanese oolong, heavy roast crafted with black tea processing
Zheng Lishan, 2025
Weight
Ripe cherry · Roasted hazelnut · Dark bread · Spices
Zheng Lishan is a black tea from Lishan crafted from high-mountain oolong material of the Qing Xin Oolong cultivar, using traditional 1970s–1980s black tea processing techniques with a high level of oxidation.
Aroma: roasted nuts, fresh cherry, and spices.
The liquor is bright, reddish-amber.
Taste: soft and rich, free from harsh astringency and bitterness. It greets you with dark bread and juicy cherry with a characteristic tartness leaning toward tobacco notes, yet much lighter and more pleasant. Throughout the session, all tasting notes weave together into a sweet harmony reminiscent of a Black Forest cherry chocolate cake.
Beyond the characteristic softness and sweetness of black tea, it possesses the “mountain spirit” of Lishan—a distinctive mountain minerality (山头气) typical of high-mountain tea from Lishan, lending it freshness and a sense of purity. It is precisely this contrast between the warm, bread-and-spice base and the cooler mountain character that makes this tea exceptionally intriguing.
Effect: light, pleasant, and uplifting. The tea clears the mind, gently boosts the mood, and leaves a sense of clarity without any tension.
It is equally great for taking a quiet moment to reset on your own or sharing several infusions with friends—it effortlessly sparks conversation, creates a relaxed, warm atmosphere, and brings out laughter!
