Clay, Master Peng Yu
“Sun Worship” Tea Bowl, 140 ml
暾将出兮东方,照吾槛兮扶桑。
“The sun is about to rise in the east, bathing Fusang in its light.”Qu Yuan, “Nine Songs: The Lord of the East”
Master Peng Yu's teaware is imbued with the “beauty of imperfection”—the result of the master's years of immersion in the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece captures a dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern spirit of Zen: natural simplicity and the primal elegance of antiquity. This aesthetic pursuit is realized through nearly twenty meticulous stages of craftsmanship.
He uses local natural clay from primary deposits and exclusively wood as fuel. No artificial glaze is applied. The pieces gain their luster from the very “life” of the kiln: over three days and two nights under extreme temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melting into a living glaze that vitrifies into unique markings and textures.
This tea bowl is inspired by ancient rock art and hand-painted by Master Peng Yu. At its base lies an ancient symbol of the Sun!
