Master Peng Yu’s teaware is imbued with the “beauty of imperfection”—the fruit of his many years of immersion in the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece captures a dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern Zen spirit: natural simplicity and primal, ancient elegance. This aesthetic pursuit is realized through nearly twenty craft stages.
He uses local natural clay from primary deposits as his material and exclusively firewood for fuel. No artificial glazes are used. The luster of each piece comes from the very “life” of the kiln: over three days and two nights under ultra-high temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melting and transforming into a living glaze that solidifies into unique markings and textures.
