Master Peng Yu's teaware is imbued with the "beauty of imperfection"—the result of the artisan's many years of immersion in the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece captures the dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern spirit of Zen: natural simplicity and primal, antique grace. This aesthetic pursuit is achieved through nearly twenty meticulously observed crafting stages.
He uses native, natural clay from primary deposits and fires exclusively with firewood. No artificial glaze is used. The pieces owe their luster to the very "life" of the kiln: over three days and two nights under extreme temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melts, and transforms into a living glaze that hardens into unique patterns and textures.
This teacup is inspired by ancient rock paintings and hand-painted by Master Peng Yu.
