Clay, Master Peng Yu
“Rock Art VI”, 110 ml
“In essence, it is a worship of the Imperfect.”
Okakura Kakuzo, “The Book of Tea”
The teaware of Master Peng Yu is infused with the “beauty of imperfection”—the result of the master's years of immersion in the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece captures a dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern spirit of Zen: natural simplicity and primeval, antique elegance. This aesthetic quest is realized across nearly twenty distinct technical stages.
For material, he uses native natural clay from primary deposits, fired exclusively with firewood. No artificial glaze is used. The sheen of each piece is gifted by the kiln's very own “life”: over three days and two nights under extreme temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melting and transforming into a living glaze that sets in unique spots and textures.
This tea bowl is inspired by ancient rock art and hand-painted by Master Peng Yu.
