Clay, Master Peng Yu
"Rock Art III", 145 ml
"In essence, it is a tender attempt to cheat the unattainable, so to say, a worship of the Imperfect."
Okakura Kakuzo, "The Book of Tea"
Master Peng Yu's teaware is imbued with the "beauty of imperfection"—the result of his years-long immersion in the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece captures the dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern spirit of Zen: natural simplicity and primal antiquity. This aesthetic vision is realized through nearly twenty rigorous technological stages.
For his material, he uses native clay from primary deposits, and for fuel, exclusively firewood. No artificial glaze is used. The vessels derive their sheen from the very "life" of the kiln: over three days and two nights under extreme temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melts, and transforms into a living glaze that sets into unique patterns and textures.
This bowl is inspired by ancient rock art and is hand-painted by Master Peng Yu.
