Clay, Master Peng Yu
“Rock Painting V”, 120 ml
“In essence, it is a worship of the Imperfect.”
Okakura Kakuzō, “The Book of Tea”
Master Peng Yu's teaware is imbued with the “beauty of imperfection”—the result of the master's years of immersion in the philosophy of wabi-sabi. Each piece captures the dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern spirit of Zen: natural simplicity and primal, ancient elegance. This aesthetic pursuit is realized through nearly twenty meticulous production stages.
For his material, he uses local natural clay from primary deposits, and exclusively firewood for fuel. No artificial glaze is used. The pieces derive their luster from the very “life” of the kiln: over three days and two nights of ultra-high temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melts, and transforms into a living glaze that sets in unique markings and textures.
This tea bowl is inspired by ancient rock art and hand-painted by Master Peng Yu.
