It is rooted in the Chaoshan tea tradition (Chaozhou/Shantou, Guangdong Province), where traditional Chaozhou Gongfu cha is characterized by the use of very small cups. As the Chengs explained, cups like these were specifically used for oolongs traditionally grown in Guangdong Province.
The cup is made of white porcelain in the “eggshell” style—it shares a similar shape and features ultra-thin walls that beautifully accentuate the flavor of oolong.
It features a gilded rim and a golden bamboo motif.
