Master Peng Yu’s teaware is imbued with the “beauty of imperfection”—the fruit of his years-long immersion in the wabi-sabi philosophy. Each piece captures a dialogue between Earth and Fire, embodying the Eastern spirit of Zen: natural simplicity and the primal elegance of antiquity. This aesthetic pursuit is achieved through nearly twenty meticulous craft stages.
He works exclusively with local natural clay from primary deposits and fires his kiln solely with firewood. No artificial glazes are used. The pieces owe their luster to the kiln’s very “life”: over three days and two nights under ultra-high temperatures, natural wood ash settles onto the clay, melting and transforming into a living glaze that vitrifies into unique markings and textures.
Its texture and earthy color evoke a rustic thatched cottage. Crafted from clay, it has a pleasant weight, retains heat well, fits comfortably in the hand, and offers a smooth, clean pour.
